Beginning with the 2007 documentary ‘Journey of Desire’, Yasmina has been producing films about the dance world in Egypt for many years. Her four-part series ‘In Our Own Words, The Cairo Dance Scene Explained’, is a valuable resource for those wanting to learn more about the contemporary world of belly dance in Cairo. Although the last interviews were conducted in 2021, it remains the most comprehensive study of the dance scene to date. The series takes the form of interviews with twenty-two dancers, both Egyptian and foreign, looking not only at their professional lives but exploring the scene from the perspective of the managers, musicians, and public that make up the world of belly dance as entertainment in Egypt. You can access all the documentaries (including ‘Journey of Desire’, which looks at Yasmina’s own journey to dance in Cairo, and those of her contemporaries) by clicking the buttons below:
Yasmina has been producing music for dancers in Cairo since 1999, recording seven CD collections, each containing a wide variety of music for belly dance and folklore. Each album contains a specially composed original piece with a majencee opening as well as other original compositions in the form of tableaux and set pieces in different Egyptian folkloric styles. Yasmina has also rerecorded many classic Egyptian songs using the vocal talents of a variety of singers. This collection is an absolute must for belly dancers. Recorded to emulate the live style of an Egyptian orchestra, each album is ready to use for all your shows and other dance opportunities – or just to listen to for pleasure!
