Lessons
Oriental dance teachers are easy to find in Cairo, but deciding on the
right match for you can be time-consuming. Give us an idea of your level
and style and we can point you in the right direction. If your request
is slightly different – you’d like tabla classes from a master,
learn to whirl like a dervish (tanoura technique), take lessons from the
Ghawazee of Upper Egypt or the Bedouin of Mersa Matrouh, or specialize
in any specific folkloric style, we can arrange this for you.
‘Fixing’ Services
We have a wide network of contacts enabling us to provide help of many
different kinds, whether you want Arabic lessons, you’re a foreign
journalist seeking information, a film-maker looking for a local production
company, or you’d like an Egyptian band to play at a private party.
Whatever your interest we can help you pursue it.
Off-beat Adventures and Travel Destinations
There are no shortage of local travel agents to help you get to any of
the traditional tourist spots, but we know of a few off-the-beaten-track
adventures that aren’t quite so easy to find, or arrange. Blend
into the crowd and soak up the atmosphere at a traditional moulid (Sufi
religious festival), feast your eyes on the world’s most beautiful
Arabian horses at a dancing horse championship, or chill out in a private
eco-hideaway near the ancient pyramids at Dashour. These are just some
of our suggestions; contact us for more details.
Cultural activities
Quite apart from watching oriental dancers, Cairo has a whole host of
cultural activities and entertainment going on at any one time, many of
them of special interest for lovers of Arabic music and dance. From international
dance and opera companies at the Cairo Opera House to less publicized
performances at small cultural centres around town, we keep up with the
best things to see at any given time. (See also ‘Cairo Bulletin’
section). During the month of Ramadan you cannot watch oriental dance,
but nevertheless this is one of the richest times of the year in Cairo
in terms of cultural entertainment. We keep abreast of the best Ramadan
tents in town.
Shopping
Whether you’re looking for the costume of your dreams, a musical
instrument, the perfect gift, arts and crafts for your home, original
paintings or anything out of the ordinary, we can help you to locate it.
Although it’s fun to explore the local markets, you’ll save
time – and probably money – with our advice. |
